The Greatest Show On Earth: Rugby World Cup 2007
Welcome back to a whole new season of top class rugby! This is the greatest show on earth! It was only since January this year 2007 that I decided to pick up rugby seriously again. It was a whole 8 years since I last touched a rugby ball competitively. The reason was simple. I had built up too much weight after slacking on my exercises and too eager for the protein meals. I wanted to lose weight desperately.
Nine months later, my baby hasn’t quite been born yet. I still have a paunch, yet only visible after a heavy meal. My weight fluctuated throughout the year, from a high of 78kg to a low of 74kg. I desperately need to shed it down to a clean 69kg, and tone my abs so that I can look good again in tights.
Well, Ramadhan is here, and the boys are going to have Sunday rugby in Ramadhan, which means that I get to lose a lot of weight!
I’ll have to be disciplined, and God help me please! But I’m sure with all the rugby that’s going on in France and England, and whatever rugby that’s happening in Punggol, will definitely help me lose that flab.
In the meantime, this has got to be the best world cup ever! Argentina caused a major upset by beating host France in the first match of the world cup. The Americans earned the English respect after making the Scarlet Carsons work hard for their win. And earlier this morning, the Japanese narrowly lost 31-35 to the Fiji powerhouse.
I never thought I would say this 8 years ago, after putting on a Xinmin Rugby jersey, and a Blacks RFC jersey, that I really love this game! It’s the only ball game that I’m actually good at and I’ve never stopped scoring tries since.
The touch that we play keeps me either on the wings or fullback. I play a strong defensive game and never give the opponent an inch to move forward. And when I’m out on the wings, watch out for those sidesteps and fakes.
However, my stamina keeps me good for one half at least, and the only time I’ve ever lasted a full game was in the 3rd/4th Police SA Sevens tournament this year. It was our second contact tournament, and I never thought we could go on and win something. But we did, and I had a good tournament. It took me 1 contact tournament and 1 touch tournament to finally settle and get comfortable in my area, and by the Police SA Sevens, I was in form and could have finally got my tournament try had Khalid off-loaded the ball to me. His mistake cost us a good try under the sticks and I was the closest to be able to score.
In any case, I was hoping we got ourselves prepared for the next tournament, most likely next year. But the highlight would be the opportunity to travel overseas, like the Phuket Sevens and play amongst some of the best in the world. It’s still up to the boys if they really want it. I hope they do. I sooo want to go to Phuket next year.
Oh. And I don’t care what anyone else thinks, I sooo LOVE the new Welsh Rugby jersey!
