Ramly and the entrepreneurial Malay

0Hazrul Azhar Jamari30th Apr 2009My Notes

There are many makan businesses that are often indulged in by Malays and all of them are the same to me. But one business remains a mere potential. For too long Ramly stands have made their business in pasar malams that I wonder when are they ever going to progress? The authentic Asian sloppy joe could possibly usurp multi-national giants like McDonalds or KFC if these Ramly tenants form a fast food chain at every neighbourhood. I’d be more than willing to pay $3 for a burger with chicken or beef patty wrapped with an omelette with a spicy and sour blend of condiments anytime. True, the Ramly might lose it’s rustic charm but it’s up to them to move to the next step. For me, the Ramly business has stagnated as it fails to transform it’s long queues into a Singaporean/Malaysian fast food pride competing shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the world. I would love to see a Ramly outlet when I visit New York beating the Yankees at their own game.
