codeXtreme. eatXtreme.
I swear that in the past weekend, all I did was eat. Coded a lot. But I repeated a lot of thing also. I wasn’t familliar with Ruby On Rails, and it would be my first time trying it out seriously. It started out ok when I refreshed my memory on how to write a basic rails app.
I didn’t know how to do templating on rails, and I first started out doing it old school php/asp style. yup! I used <% render :partials … %> and used them like side includes! So that was silly of me. I learnt about RoR templates in about 3 hours later, and I rewrote everything! Yeah! Much of my time was spent learning the language and framework and rewriting code rather than getting anything done.
What was I to do? I did not have time throughout the past 2 weeks to study or code! And don’t ask about my exam earlier in the day. It was horrible I tell you. I fear a supp paper is on the cards. And I’ve never in my life needed to take one.
Well, after buka, I was pretty satisfied with my work lah so far. Coz I felt I accomplished learning something. Then it got to the tricky part. Trying to get Google Maps to work. I spent the next several hours trying to get that working. And urgh! It worked lah, but I couldn’t map out markers on it. Ruby is such a strange yet powerful language. So little code is needed to write anything useful. But I do think it has its own flaws.
I gave up on trying to get it to work before sahur. And the next several hours was spent on generating CRUDs for the other parts of the app. And then, I rewrote the login page and the welcome page to use RoR code instead of html.
And then as time ran out… well… I gave up after I couldn’t get the !@21exxqedx131!@#!@!@E gmaps plugin to work on the production server! I was running out of time, and patience. Peter said that I didn’t actually have to complete the work as it was only 20% of the score. I could still get something with my presentation. But without the gmaps working, which is the whole point of my app, there was no reason to stay.
So I left in a huff, as I had tired myself out, despite gorging over 1 set of what appeared to be a western set meal by the caterers, 1 packet of mee hoon goreng mamak, 3 vegetable vadehs, 2 prata kosong, 1 prata bawang and by the time I got to the prata telur, I could only eat 1/10 of the thing and gave the rest to a friend.
Yah… I ate a lot. That’s what I do when I’m stressed. And when I woke up today, I realised all my hard work trying to lose that fat kinda went to waste in the space of 48 hours.
(Do not ask what else I ate when I woke up from sleep for buka)
