All we need is love

Bismillah Hir Rahman Nir Rahim. In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

If I gave you $100 right now. Would you be happy?

That’s right. Right now. I’m going to give you $100 right now. You only have 1 condition. You must still be happy after you consume the money.

Do I see any hands? I’m sure there are. That’s right. You must be one of those people who would like me to give you $100 right now. There are so many things you could do with $100. That spa you wanted to go. Or you could go on a feast. Or for a short holiday.

But will giving you $100 really make you happy?

Why then do people feel so empty, so pathetic, when they run out of money? If money could buy the things that make you happy, why is it do we feel unhappy when we run out of money after we’ve already purchased endorphin-releasing items that should have theoretically made us whole?

Here’s the truth.

Money doesn’t buy happiness. It buys the illusion of happiness.

And until people realise that the things we consume doesn’t make us happy, we never will. Because that Prada you bought. That Mercedes you’re driving. Really, that’s just a massive placebo to fool you into thinking you have everything, when in fact, you’re not whole.

What do we need to make us happy?

I observed my grandmother as she entertained us grandkids and spoiled us with her delicious cooking. There’s something about plain old spinach soup and mashed eggs with rice and soy sauce that makes me happy. Even if it’s such a simple meal.

I realised that the dish my now sick grandmother used to make, made me happy, because it was made with love.

Love.

That’s the secret. If it is really a secret.

You can take your $100 right now. Spend it on anything. ANYTHING. But it won’t make you happy. Money, can’t buy happiness. All we need… is Love. Because even if you’re poor. And you have nothing but a pair of slippers and the clothes on your back as your assets. If you’re loved, you’re the most wealthiest person on Earth.
